Your photos and files are personal. This page explains, in plain words, what UpDrive collects, why, and the control you have over it.
1. The short version
- We keep your files so you don't lose them. That is the whole job.
- We don't show ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't use your files to build advertising profiles.
- We collect only what we need to run your account, store your backups and take payment.
- You can download or delete everything, and close your account, at any time.
2. What we collect
Account details. Your name, email address or phone number, and the sign-in method you choose.
Your files. The photos, videos, documents, contacts and other content you choose to back up, plus basic file details such as name, size, type and date, so we can show and restore them.
Device details. Your device model and app version, used to keep backups running reliably and to fix problems.
Payment details. If you buy a paid plan, the payment is handled by the App Store, Google Play or our payment provider. We receive a record of the purchase, but we never see or store your full card number.
Support messages. Anything you send us when you ask for help.
3. How we use it
- To store, sync and restore your files across your devices.
- To run your account and your family sharing, if you use it.
- To process purchases of paid plans and send receipts.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix bugs.
- To tell you about important changes to your account or the service.
4. Your files stay yours
We don't look through your photos or files, and we don't use them to train AI models or for advertising. Automated systems only process files to make the service work, for example to create thumbnails or check a file uploaded correctly.
Files in your Private Vault are end-to-end encrypted: they are locked with a key only you hold, so we cannot open them. If you lose that key, we cannot recover the vault for you.
5. Where your data is stored and how it is protected
Your files are stored with established cloud infrastructure providers in secure data centres. Everything is encrypted while it travels between your phone and our servers, and encrypted again while it is stored.
Access inside UpDrive is limited to the few people who need it to run the service, and every access is logged.
6. Who we share it with
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run UpDrive, such as storage, hosting, email and payment companies. They may use your data only to provide their service to us.
- App stores (Apple and Google), when you pay through them.
- Authorities, only where the law requires it. Where we are allowed to, we will tell you first.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your files for as long as your account is active. Deleted files stay in your trash for 30 days so you can recover them, then they are removed.
If a paid plan ends and you are over your free storage, your account becomes read-only and you can still download everything for 30 days. Files may then be deleted after a further grace period, and we warn you before that happens. Free accounts that stay unused for 12 months may be closed after warnings.
When you close your account, we delete your files and personal data, except for records we must keep by law, such as payment records.
8. Your choices and rights
- See, download or correct the information we hold about you.
- Delete individual files, or your whole account, from inside the app.
- Turn off backup for any type of file at any time.
- Object to or limit how we use your data, where the law gives you that right.
9. Children
UpDrive is not meant for children under 13 using it on their own. A parent can include children in family sharing and manage their backups.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
